Modernisation of the rolling stock on the Berliner Ex5 Prague – Berlin (– Hamburg) line has been successfully completed. Passengers on all services can now look forward to complete nine-car ComfortJet trainsets, including a new generation of dining cars representing the state-of-the-art technology in contemporary European railways. The remaining original dining cars will be transferred from the line to Germany to selected long-distance services in the Czech Republic, to Slovakia, and to Poland.

The last Berliner services with the original WRmz815 type dining cars will be the EC 170 train service on 5 October departing from the Prague Main Station at 16:28 hours and, in the opposite direction, the EC 171 train, which will depart from the Berlin Hbf station on Monday, 6 October at 06:55 hours.

“The popular and busy train line from Prague to the German capital can serve as a good example of how quickly we are managing to change the image of the trains operated by České dráhy. In just a few months, we have managed to completely modernise the trains on this line, and now we can provide our passengers with new and comfortable services which do not lag behind the best that can be found on European railways,” says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of České dráhy, adding: “The new trains offer greater comfort, better services, and, in the future, even faster travelling and shorter journey times. We are retaining and further upgrading the features which have proved popular, such as the top-quality cuisine in the dining cars. Passengers will therefore continue to enjoy excellent schnitzel or roast sirloin in cream sauce and draft beer.”

“We are delighted that our catering under the ČD Restaurant brand is so popular with passengers both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The ComfortJet trains mark the end of an era of large, classical dining cars, but at the same time they are opening a new chapter – modern, technically advanced trainsets with high-quality catering services. Our task is not only to maintain the current quality of refreshments during the journey, but to push it even further,” states Bohumír Bárta, General Manager of JLV, a.s.

The WRmz815 dining cars are transferred to Bohumín and deployed on trains on the Ex1 Prague – Ostrava – Bohumín line with its extensions to Poland and Slovakia.

With ComfortJet trainsets from Villach to Copenhagen

České dráhy expects ComfortJets to become the backbone means of the national carrier’s long-distance international transport in the coming years. In addition to Germany, passengers will be able to use them from mid-December for their travels from Prague to Villach in Austria, Bratislava, and Budapest, and from mid-next year even to Copenhagen in Denmark.

The final ComfortJet trainset has nine cars and offers 555 seats, 99 of which being in the first class. Another 18 seats are situated in the dining car. The train is approximately 237 metres long and is designed for a maximum speed of 230 km/h. It will be operated with the Siemens Vectron locomotives modified just for this speed. The trains will run at maximum speed, for example, on the new Koralmbahn railway line in Austria or on the railway line from Berlin to Hamburg (after completion of the modernisation of this railway line in spring 2026).

Passengers travelling on the board of the most modern Czech train will find all the 21st-century services associated with travelling by rail, such as air-conditioned interiors, a dining car, spaces for passengers in wheelchairs and families with children, spaces for prams, bicycles and large luggage, onboard Wi-Fi network, special windows allowing easy mobile phone signal reception, 230 V 50 Hz electrical sockets, USB ports for charging travel electronics, and many other benefits and services.
