České dráhy and the Siemens – Škoda manufacturing consortium have reached another milestone in the production and commissioning of the ComfortJet units. The first two complete nine-car ComfortJet units have been put into trial operation with passengers.

"Last night, the first passengers could ride on the board of a complete ComfortJet trainset consisting of nine carriages, including a new dining car and a first-class control car. This is an important milestone for both us and the manufacturer in putting twenty ComfortJets into their regular service. After a trial phase on our railway lines, the new trains will also be heading to Germany, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary in their complete configuration still this year,” says Michal Krapinec, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of České dráhy.

Currently, two nine-car ComfortJet units are available and will be deployed on the IC 517 Ostravan Praha hl.n. (19:31) – Bohumín (22:50) and IC 510 Ostravan Bohumín (9:01) – Praha hl.n. (12:19) services. After the completion of the reconfiguration of other units to nine-car trainsets, the trial operation with passengers will be extended also to the IC 512 / 515 Ostravan services, which run during the closure on the railway line 178 in the Bohumín (07:01) – Planá u Mariánských Lázní (12:50/15:08) – Bohumín (20:50) section.

The units are currently operating in a pull-mode without controlling from the control car, but passengers will already have all services available on the board, including the dining car service. This will offer a similar range of meals and drinks to those offered by the JLV service company on the board of railjet trains during this phase of the trial operation.

The Nine-Car trainsets will also go abroad during this year

After the takeover of the other nine-car CommfortJet units, their operation will be gradually extended during 2025 also to services from Prague to Berlin, Budapest and Graz.

České dráhy ordered twenty non-traction units marked with the ComfortJet trade name from the Siemens - Škoda consortium. The final trainset has nine carriages and offers 555 seats, 99 of which being in the first class. Another 18 seats are situated in the restaurant compartment. The train is approximately 237 metres long and is designed for a maximum speed of 230 km/h. It will operate with Siemens Vectron locomotives.

Passengers on the board of the most modern train on our railway lines will find there all modern services associated with rail travelling, such as air-conditioned interiors, a dining car, places for wheelchair users and families with children, places for prams, bicycles and large luggage, on-board Wi-Fi network, special windows allowing easy passage of mobile phone signals, 230 V 50 Hz power supply sockets and USB ports for charging travel electronics and many other benefits and services. The trains will be deployed on train services from Prague via Ústí nad Labem to Germany and via Pardubice and Brno to Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.
